My dad recently turned 50 years old this last May 23. Every year, he goes to this rural village in San Antonio where he grew up, in order to...well, make an "alay". It's not really a sacrifice, but more like a kind of praise or thanksgiving to Mary. It's a tradition my grandfather started. Although he's already passed away, my dad still keeps the custom up.
I really didn't have anything to wear to my dad's birthday. This was the only dress I had at home, all my other clothes are at UP. I decided to fix the dress up with the belt and the shrug. Actually, it was really hot there but the dress was really low in the back so I did HAVE to wear the cardigan.
What happens with the alay is there's singing and the children throw flower petals on the altar.
Sabog ng bulaklak
Sadyang salit-salit
Sa mahal mong noo'y aming ikakapit
Buhos ng pag-asa
Sadyang pananalig
Ang tatanggapin mo'y
Handog ng Pagibig
This is my youngest brother, the only one in the family young enough to throw petals. We old people just place bouquets on the altar, in the tune of a different song.
Macro shots of my outfit. I like taking shots of what I wore in odd angles, whether to emphasize the print, or some detail of the outfit that I liked.
Also, since I don't have a photographer such shots are the only artistic ones I can do. Well, as long as I still don't have tripod that is.
Last outfit shot before we went home. I have the same pose anyway.
Things have really changed. Imagine, my dad's already fifty. Things were so different when I was young. The same goes for my dad. The picture above was a river where he first learned how to swim. Now it's so thick with lilies you can hardly see the water. Time changes all things. People age.
Happy Birthday Dad.
